Subscriptions (known as subs)

Subs payments for the group are normally £14 per month and should be paid on the 1st of the month. We will be using Online Scout Manager to manage this and you will receive an email from this system separately.
Each term is made up of four payments:
- Autumn – Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec.
- Spring – Jan, Feb, March, April.
- Summer – May, June, July, August.
The subscriptions that we collect from you are made up of three parts:
- The National Scout Association’s capitation fee.
- Section /programme materials.
- Malpas Scout and Guide HQ building expenses.
The National Scout Association’s capitation fee
This pays for each members annual National Scout membership fee. The money is used by the Scout Association to provide a comprehensive support structure to the groups including safeguarding and safety support, leader training, technical activity advisors and programme development for the sections. It also includes insurance for your young person whilst on Scout activities. This year the fee will be about £60 per person, around half of the money we collect in subs annually.
Section / programme materials
This portion of the subs is used by our section leaders to purchase resources for their section meetings and activities such as badges, paper, pens and equipment for games. It is also used within the group to purchase larger items of equipment such as tents and cooking equipment.
Malpas Scout and Guide HQ building expenses
The final portion of the subs is used to pay for the day to day running costs of our HQ which we own. So like any building owner we have utility and insurance bills, maintenance and repair bills, cleaning and annual inspection bills to pay.
